Description
Red rubber catheters do not appear to be available anywhere else in the UK to the best of our knowledge. Our red rubber catheters have been specially sourced from the US. They have a multitude of uses in animal care. The catheters can be used to give an enema to a newborn cria that hasn’t passed its first faeces and is straining to do so. In addition, they can also be used to diagnose choanal atresia in newborn crias: this is a genetic and congenital defect that results in the airway at the back of the nostrils not being open to facilitate breathing. Instead there is a membranous or bony obstruction. These soft red rubber catheters can be passed up either nostril to see if there is just such an obstruction. The obstruction will be at the level of the inner eye – and is usually present on both sides. The catheters can also be used to help flush deep wounds and abscesses.
We have two sizes listed: choose 14 French for most applications in camelids (eg checking for choanal atresia, tube feeding or cria enemas and also wound flushing).
Lubricating jelly can be bought as single use sterile sachets to use for enemas. See Lubricating jelly
