If your practice is seeing a reasonable number of camelids, it may be a more cost-effective solution to have a course tailored specifically towards the needs of your vets and clientele and taught on-site at your practice. Please contact us if you are interested in this option.

Here are some testimonials from practices that have opted for in-house CPD:

“Claire visited our practice to deliver an excellent 2 day presentation on alpacas to our large animal team, encompassing both seminars and a practical scanning session. The presentation was tailored to our specific requests and supported by comprehensive notes but Claire’s extensive camelid knowledge and experience enabled us to explore wider topics as the subjects cropped up. Consideration of all areas of camelid veterinary care and intervention were interspersed with informative videos and case discussions. The nature of presentation was readily adjusted to reflect the depth, or lack of, experience of the delegates. Undoubtedly we all found the presentation invaluable.”

Sam Prescott MA VetMB GPCert (ExAP) MRCVS, Robson & Prescott

“We have an increasing number of alpaca clients at our practice and felt the need to increase our knowledge. We recently arranged an in-house CPD weekend delivered by Claire Whitehead to which all our vets attended for some of, or the entire course. Claire was an excellent speaker delivering a series of very informative presentations with much interaction and discussion from our vets. The course was undertaken at one of our client’s premises to allow the practical component of handling, physical examination and ultrasonography.

After an informative and exhausting weekend we all feel much more confident in our approach to alpacas and recommend this course to anyone seeing any number of alpacas.”

Why learn with us?

It’s tough to know where to get your information from. There are many differing opinions out there and it can be hard to pick out the ones that are actually correct. I have worked almost exclusively with camelids for 14 years and started out the camelid-focussed part of my career working with one of the best, Dr David Anderson. I pass on that knowledge and experience in my courses.

The material presented in these courses is evidence-based, not just something that I may have found “works for me”. If you’re thinking about attending, it may also be reassuring to know that I have a teaching qualification to teach at higher education level and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

As well as structured courses run from my practice premises in South East Oxfordshire, I travel widely throughout the UK and Europe to provide bespoke training & CPD. If your regional group or practice is seeing a reasonable number of camelids, it may be a more cost-effective solution to have a bespoke course tailored specifically towards the needs of your vets / group / clientele and taught on-site at your practice / in your area. Please contact us if you are interested in this option.

Places to stay locally

There are lots of lovely places to stay locally. Please note that none are walking distance from our clinic unfortunately and there is no easy public transportation to our front gate. If you are coming by public transport, the closest train stations are at Pangbourne and Goring, with Reading the biggest rail hub locally. Taxis are available from Reading but require advance booking from Pangbourne or Goring.

“I’ve now had alpacas for 20 years and I’ve learnt a lot of stuff that I wish I’d known years before!”

Kate Brookes, Mullacott Alpacas

“Excellent course. We covered a lot in just one day.”

Tim Shaw, Anglesey Alpacas

“Huge effort and energy. Thank you.” “Really worthwhile – thank you. Claire goes the extra mile!!”
